Originally, lo Halha de Nadau consisted of farming families walking around their fields at nightfall with a blazing torch of straw in a ritual to protect their crops and encourage abundant harvests. Today, it has become a torchlight procession - or lo halha - accompanied by a fife-and-drum band, a large bonfire in the centre of town, and during the daytime, the Christmas Market with events for all ages.
Beneath the arcaded archways of the magnificent cathedral square (the cathedral itself is one of the World Heritage Sites of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France), around a hundred stands present craft products and regional food produce. Witness the Grande Crèche Vivante Gasconne live nativity play, and the illumination of the cathedral. Then delight your children with a carriage or pony ride, giant cuddly toy, magical forest or balloon sculpture!
And since we are now in the 21st century, Father Christmas naturally visits the children as they enjoy a tea that culminates in hot chocolate.
