A new piece of history forged in History is what the Bridiers’ Fresco has been narrated to you every year for the last 14 years, beside La Souterraine in the Creuse department. This scenography is a pure harmony of light and sound, costumes, music… embracing state-of-the-art technologies, an invitation to an amazing gigantic outdoor show.
Acting in the shadows is an association which wishes to promote the heritage of Bridiers, an impressive medieval site with dungeon and remains of fortifications. It has successfully brought together a myriad of skills and know-how: the voices and talents of the storytellers Pierre Tchernia, Pierre Bellemare and Macha Méril, nimble-fingered costume designers and highly-creative craftspeople, and today on stage over 500 actors and volunteers.
Cap sur la Liberté (In Pursuit of Freedom), is this year’s epic show: it is Saint John’s Eve 18010, Baptiste, a shipwright and native of Bridiers, meets Admiral Justin Bonaventure Morard de Galles, who has been appointed a Senator of the Creuse. Together, they recall their past sailing across the world’s oceans.
From the naval battle waged against pirates in the Mediterranean to transporting royal troops to American shores, from the West Indies to the island of Mauritius, from the expedition to Ireland to the reception at Versailles, from discovering the great end-of-the-18th-century inventions to the French Revolution, they evoke journeys and ports-of-call and, above all, this unwavering bond of friendship which these two men have formed, which they carry forever with them in their luggage and which, if we take History into account, should never have existed…
Fancy heading off with them? The show (with dinner on-site if wished) takes place every evening at 10pm from 2 to 5 August, at just a dozen kilometres from the A20 motorway exit.
