La grande course des Pères Noël

Christmas Race

The great Christmas Race is now a festive tradition in Saint Benoit, near Poitiers.

Every year since 2000, a few days before Christmas, Saint Benoit town centre is invaded by some very colourful competitors! Around 1,200 runners in Father (and Mother) Christmas costumes compete over the 7.5 km route through the streets of the town. And there’s also a 1 km course for elves aged 6 to 13. As well as prizes for the best costumes and sleighs.
The other original feature of this festive sporting event is its commitment to raising funds for charity. For every Saint Benoit Father Christmas competitor, the Un Hôpital pour les Enfants children’s hospital charity receives €1 per entrant to help fund its work, which focuses on improving hospital conditions for sick children and teenagers. A race that really does embrace the spirit of Christmas!
