Madiran

Open-day weekend in Madiran

The best time to fully discover this robust wine of the south-west is this two-day post-harvest festival, which - as in many other vineyards - includes walks through the vines, fine food markets, traditional meals enjoyed with others, a variety of other events and - of course - cellar tours (some with dinner options!) and tastings.

What makes these places so special is their location at the foot of the Pyrenees, which inevitably influences their climate and wines; the Tannat - a late and prodigious variety of grape used only in small proportions, but which contains the rich tannins that could be the essential secret of the ‘French Paradox’; the Château de Crouseilles and its Cellar, icons of this appellation of 130 winegrowers; and the sharing of the terroir with the complex, fresh, elegant dry and sweet wines of Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh.
