Cognac Rémy Martin

Top 4 must-do visits to delight in cognac

Cognac, located some 44 kilometres from Angoulême, has been cultivating the art of distilling wine and its lees using “double chauffe” (two heatings or double distillation) for centuries now. The most authentic

Cognac Boinaud

The totally unpretentious Boinaud House invites to discover its vines and its distillery. The advantage is that it is one of the rare firms to host everything on the same site. I suggest you do this circuit during grape-harvesting, in September, when the grape is being processed, or even during the distillation period from October to the end of March. 140, rue de la Bonne-Chauffe, 16130 Angeac-Champagne. Reservation: +33 (0)5 45 83 72 72. www.boinaud.com

The Logis du Maine Giraud attracted the poet Alfred de Vigny. He often stayed there, undertook renovations and wrote some of his most beautiful poems from the central tower. As well as wine tastings, the estate also has a museum dedicated to this emblematic author of Romanticism. In the surrounding area, Romanesque chapels, the Templar commandery and hiking trails allow you to continue your reverie...

Free admission, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm. www.mainegiraud.com
