45 km to the east of Poitiers, the abbey church of Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe is an architectural gem often referred to as “the Sistine Chapel of the Roman period”. The first thing that strikes is its sheer size, 42 metres long and 17 metres wide. The nave creates an instant impression of light and space.
