Below the center of Poitiers, the Cathedral Saint-Pierre is by far the most imposing building in Poitiers. In the Angevin Gothic style, it presents a remarkable façade with a rose window and three sculpted portals following the influence of the Gothic style of the Ile de France. Built from the end of the 12th century under the impulse of Eleanor of Aquitaine, it is today classified as a Historical Monument.
Its rich collection of 18 stained glass windows from the first half of the 13th century, including the beautiful stained glass window in the center of the chevet from the 12th century, the choir stalls from the middle of the 13th century, among the oldest in France, and the 18th century organ, the work of F. Clicquot, stand out. The most spectacular? An exceptional set of wall paintings dating from the beginning of the works.
