A picturesque destination, full of chic and poetry... Located in the Né Valley, this village with its postcard landscapes was born from the merger of three communes: Blanzac-Porcheresse, Saint-Léger and Cressac-Saint-Genis.
This particularity makes the Coteaux du Blanzacais a territory with a rich and diversified heritage. There are no less than six churches in the area, all in the Romanesque style. Some of them, such as the church of Saint-Arthémy, can be visited all year round, with free access or on request.
But what would the Coteaux du Blanzacais be without the history of Blanzac? The village of Blanzac was established in the 12th century. At that time, its castle was considered one of the most powerful strongholds in the region. On his return from the crusades, Richard the Lionheart, then king of England and of the duchy of Aquitaine, made a stopover in Blanzac and succeeded in seizing the village. The castle was later dismantled, but traces of his passage remain. Near the Jules Ferry school, you can see a circular tower that belonged to him. Its height will give you an idea of the imposing dimensions of the castle of the time.
Further on the hillsides, the Templar chapel of Cressac-Saint-Genis will open its doors to you, to discover its mural frescoes. These paintings, present all around the monument, will allow you to relive the epic of the Jerusalem crusades and to learn a little more about the daily life of the Templars. Once your visit is over, don't hesitate to stop and enjoy the panorama. Picnic tables are available on site.
Speaking of gastronomy, what about visiting the Maine Giraud in Champagne-Vigny? This distillery with its exceptional charm, offers you to participate in a Cognac and Pineau tasting session. Let yourself be surprised by its 25 years old brandy. Its manufacturing process will no longer hold any secrets for you. After this tasting, you can walk in the footsteps of the poet Alfred de Vigny. A museum is dedicated to him inside the domain and its visit is free. Something to tantalize your taste buds, but also to satisfy your thirst for culture.
This destination will suit all vacationers in search of sumptuous landscapes and romanticism. Expect to be amazed!
