As the main city in Lot-et-Garonne, famed for its hundred year old rugby team, the SUA, and its prunes, Agen has grown in the heart of the South-West, between the Garonne river and the gentle Deux-Mers or Garonne Canal. With a rich 2000 year history, the town reveals its heritage through its medieval alleys and elegant 19th century boulevards: Saint Caprais Cathedral; rue des Cornières; place des Laitiers, the real heart of the town; Ducourneau theatre; the Museum of Fine Art with some of the best collections in the region; Jacobins church, many private mansions; and the Canal Bridge, the 2nd longest in France which the Greenway along the canal crosses. A dynamic town centre with shops and services, and many shows and concerts. Farmers markets display local produce: foie gras, fruit and vegetables and, of course, Agen prunes!
