Situated to the north of the Arcachon Basin, the Salt Meadows Nature Reserve is the largest area of salt meadows in Aquitaine (200 hectares). The existence of a continuity of natural environments from the sea to the forest (mudflats, salt meadows, dune rim, wooded dune, forest) give this site an exceptional value on the Bay of Arcachon. The wild character of the site contrasts with the more or less urbanized coastline or with the dyked sectors of the Bay of Arcachon where nature has been controlled.
Each season, the reserve offers the visitor different landscapes. The changing colours of the vegetation, the play of light in the coastal skies, the animation offered by a fauna that changes with the seasons, make it a unique place of discovery. Guided tours are available.
