25km north of Sarlat between Les Eyzies and Lascaux, Saint Léon sur Vézère lies, as its name suggests, in a bend in the Vézère river.
Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, the village has the charming medieval heritage of the Périgord Noir.
A maze of couredoux (narrow streets), white stone houses with warm stone roofs and monuments which give it character.
Among them,
-Saint Léonce Roman church from the 12th century, listed as an historic monument which hosts concerts for the Périgord Noir Music Festival in summer
-the 16th century Clérans Château in a park planted with hundred year old trees
-the Manoir de la Salle built in the 14th century
-the 16th century expiatory chapel with its 13th century recesses
The town also has three prehistoric deposits, Sous le Roc, le Moustier and la Rochette.
