The municipality of Montendre and the association Serial Azimut Saintongeais, with the help of the French orienteering federation, have set up an orienteering area at Lake Baron-Desqueyroux.
This activity and its functioning are rather simple. Like an orienteering race, the principle is to walk from a map in order to find, while moving, checkpoints marked by punching beacons installed here and there, in places that are more or less easy to detect, at the bottom of a slope, in the middle of brambles or ferns, in the shade of a pine tree or by a stream...

Dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, this Romanesque church was mutilated during the Hundred Years' War and sacked by the Calvinists. It was subsequently restored and given large buttresses in the 15th century. Today, it is a listed building.
Its stained glass windows are not of the period. They were rebuilt using 12th century methods and materials. That is to say, stained glass windows without colours, white on white, with simple assemblies of medallions, symbols of plants and crosses.
There is no account of why the church was dedicated to St Lawrence. Only the story of this saint remains. He was a fervent believer, a deacon of the church in Rome in the 3rd century AD, who was arrested and burned alive for refusing to hand over the church's treasures to the emperor Valerian. One of the stained glass windows in the building tells the story of St. Lawrence's martyrdom when he was attacked by fire.
