Les jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac

Périgord’s most beautiful gardens

Although Dordogne is much better known for its castles and gastronomy, it has a wealth of incredibly enchanting gardens which marvellously crown the scenescapes which they dominate and the dwellings which they enhance. A journey through our five favourites.

Gardens of the Imagination in Terrasson-Lavilledieu

At just thirty minutes from Brive and Sarlat, these 6 hectares of lush delights invite you to discover: 150 plant species, 120 water sprays, 2,000 rosebushes, 20,000 perennials, 8,000 trees and bushes, terraces which overhang each other and interweave, a sylvan theatre, a ‘green’ tunnel, woods, a viewpoint and much more… Everything it takes for the Gardens of the Imagination in Terrasson to whisk visitors back through the long history of Humanity and landscape art from Roman times to the present.
A contemporary creation by the Paysage Land architecture studio, comprised of Kathryn Gustafson and Ian Ritchie, it offers 13 green and water-focused scenes which visitors are invited to breathe life into through a rejuvenating, initiatory stroll.

Run by the association Au Fil du temps, the panoramic gardens showcase themes: arboretum, medieval garden, colour garden (tinctorial plants), witch’s garden (plants with magical powers), water garden, insect garden… A host of spaces to stroll through along the interpretative trails, before heading off to take part in the nature workshops (from July).

Cognac Decroix bio

All the resources needed by the vines are present in nature. It is entirely up to the wine grower, the craftsman of his wine, to use these resources to reveal the unique qualities of the soil.

It is what Jean-Francois Decroix has practised on his vineyard since by producing cognac and pineau.
This means autonomy and independence of the vineyard with no reliance on external contributory sources. This is made possible thanks to additional crops produced from August to May which provide the physiological needs of the vines throughout the year.

The grape naturally contains the yeasts which transform sugar into alcohol during the wine making process. The wine obtained, once distilled in the traditional charentaise way, will turn into the famous cognac brandy. A slow ageing, in oak barrels made from local wood, will give the final product its so typical taste of cognac. By his research work on blending methods, Jean-Francois Decroix has managed to create a 'natural' cognac with the flavours of former days.

A cognac which respects the beauty of nature and the magic of life.

Church of Saint-Sulpice

The church of Saint-Sulpice de Chillac was built in the 12th century. A visit to this church is of particular interest as it is located just a stone's throw from the Château de Chillac. That's two monuments for the price of one!
Although apparently well-preserved, the monument was severely damaged during the Hundred Years' War. A complete restoration was necessary in the 15th century.

Three storeys are visible from the outer façade. Strong gothic buttresses serve to reinforce the structure.
