Lascaux Cave in the Périgord Noir is a masterpiece of prehistoric art with frescoes showing around 600 animals (horses, bulls, deer, felines, etc.) and enigmatic signs. Today, the site can be rediscovered at the International Centre for Cave Art, a complex of more than 8,000 m² at the foot of Lascaux hill.
This exceptional place includes a complete and unprecedented replica of the cave and 6 exhibition halls retracing the discovery of Lascaux, its place in world cave art and contemporary creativity. This is an immersive experience at the heart of prehistory, thanks in particular to the technological prowess of both the building and visitor aids (augmented reality, 3D screen, etc). A moving and sensory experience guaranteed!
Bonus: a rich and original cultural programme and a new exhibition.
The first facsimile of Lascaux is located in Montignac on the Unesco protected hill, a few metres from the original cave. It is an exact replica of the Hall of the Bulls and the Axial Diverticulum, which represents 90% of the paintings in the famous cave. As you leave the light of day for the world of darkness, you will have the sensation of walking through the original cave. Throughout the visit, the guide will try to recreate the emotion of the discovery and will introduce you to the intimate and universal art of Lascaux.
Duration: 1 hour - Booking recommended
