A modern, friendly gourmet restaurant on the outskirts of Angoulême, l'Aumì was born of the love between two enthusiasts in 2022. It was awarded its first Michelin star in 2023! A unique experience on the terrace or in the dining room opening onto the kitchen.
A former diocesan house dominated by the Obezine church, this 16-room hotel is close to all Angoulême has to offer. The verdant setting is complemented by a bistronomic restaurant offering charm, tranquillity and gourmet delights.
In the heart of Angoulême, this 3-star hotel, housed in the former 1778 Tiercellettes convent, offers charm and warm welcomes. The cathedral, museums, market, restaurants and pedestrian zone are all less than 10 minutes away.
In the heart of Angoulême's old town, facing the market, only 2 steps away from the lively streets, the museums and the monuments of the comic strip capital, the Mercure Hôtel de France offers 89 rooms with an on-site restaurant, a bar, terraces and private lounges.
ANGOULEME - CHATEAUNEUF-SUR-CHARENTE
Start: in Angoulême
Time: 1h41 - Distance: 25.37 km
Along the Charente valley
This stage is marked by the alternation between Angoulême and Châteauneuf, the route of the Flow Vélo® alternates between the right bank and the left bank of the Charente river and invites you to discover the river by taking a little height but also by brushing it with wheels…
From Angoulême, you will soon meet the loop of the Charente in Fléac before reaching the village of Trois-Palis, where you will not be able to resist the visit of the chocolate factory Letuffe. This artisan chocolate factory is the most famous in Charente! You will find the famous Marguerite d'Angoulême (chocolate flavored with orange) and other specialties such as Charentaise truffandines or guinettes (cherries with cognac)
The route continues until Saint-Simeux, whose village rises to 80 meters of altitude. The Flow Vélo®, on the other hand, runs at the foot of the village, where water mills and river transport used to be the main economy of the municipality.
From the bridge that you quickly reach at the exit of Saint Simeux, admire the view of the church that dominates the valley, the old eel fisheries and the water mill. The opportunity to take a picture worthy of a postcard!
Continue towards the village of Mosnac which has a dozen 19th century farms and several 16th century houses. At 2 km from your arrival and from the center of Châteauneuf-sur-Charente, the Ladies' bath is a pleasant sandy beach calling for a stroll. It is located opposite Mattard Island and very close to the Véloroute.
In the town centre of Chateauneuf-sur-Charente, the church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens presents a beautiful Romanesque facade inspired by the cathedral of Angoulême. Between the church and the town hall with neoclassical architecture, the old streets feature mansions (15th century Berdeville house) and old fronts.
By the fireside or on the terrace in the heart of 10 hectares of woodland, the Domaine du Chatelard offers a harmonious setting. The chef's inventive cuisine, with a slight Italian influence, is rich in local produce, including his AB-labeled vegetable garden.
