The Nouvelle-Aquitaine portion of the Tour de France begins on July 15 in Pau, in the Pyrenees (a Tour de France stage town for the 73rd time) then runs along the Atlantic coast between Mourenx and Libourne, finishing in Saint-Emilion, in a time trial at the heart of some of the world’s most prestigious vineyards!
Stages
15 July – 18th stage - Pau-Luz Ardiden, 130 kms
This stage, the final battle of the best climbers before the finish line in Paris, passes through Lourdes and Bagnères de Bigorre and features 4 climbs, including 2 major climbs, with the passage of Col du Tourmalet (2115m altitude – with 17km up a 7% slope), and finishes with the ascent up to Luz Ardiden (1715m altitude - 13km / 7% slope.)
16 July – 19th stage - Mourenx-Libourne, 207 kms
This stage crosses the Landes and its regional nature park, the largest one in all of Europe, as well as Mont-de-Marsan (land of rugby), the picturesque village of Luxey then heads into the Bordeaux vineyards, through the old fortified medieval town of Cadillac, before reaching Libourne. For this traditional stage, the organizers predict an interesting finale with the race’s best sprinters!
17 July – 20th stage - Libourne-Saint-Emilion time trial, 31 km
The route of the Tour de France's final time trial between Libourne and Saint-Emilion takes in some prestigious wine estates and crosses Pomerol and Montagne. The suspense should be palpable, as the time trials at the end of the Tour will determine the final attribution of the Yellow Jersey!
