The Musée Archéologique (Archeological Museum) is located in Rochefort oldest church, the Vieille Paroisse, where the oldest relics date back to the 12th century.
The Museum of Archaeology is housed in Rochefort's oldest monument, a disused church known as the "Vieille paroisse", whose oldest elements date back to the 12th century. It is now the headquarters of the Société de Géographie de Rochefort, the oldest learned society in the region, heir to the Société de Littérature, Sciences et Arts, founded in 1806.
Among the jewels on display are an exceptional statue of an Old Man of the Apocalypse, bone and shell ornaments, Bronze Age tools, salt site utensils, Paleo-Christian ceramics and 18th-century Saintonge tableware. Signs and brochures are available to guide visitors.
