The beach of the Royal Pavilion is a long sandy beach stretching for more than a kilometre

It is the longest sandy beach in Bidart and the most remote because it is only accessible on foot. A real nugget to discover at the end of the path.

Stayed wilder, it will delight nature lovers and the quality of its waves will allow amateurs to surf at low tide on different sandbanks for all levels

It is equipped with toilets and showers

It is supervised from mid-June to mid-September.

Dogs are not allowed during the surveillance period.

Few parking spaces are available around the beach. Access can easily be done by the Velodymuseum which passes nearby and by bus from the "Prince of Wales" stop.

Created by Thomas Gouffrant in 1996, Lagoondy Surf School Biarritz is located on the Basque coast, on the edge of Biarritz, at villa Goiz Arin.



We offer two packages: hour-based surfing lessons and residential surfing courses. At Lagoondy our timetable is dictated by the sea! So get set for surf sessions at nightfall or in the early hours of the morning on an empty beach.

Lessons are held on the magnificent Ilbarritz Beach, on the edge of Biarritz on the Basque coast; a beach in a natural setting with two restaurants, a snack bar, golf course and free parking.



Bidart Surf Academy is a very friendly school where you are assured of a warm, relaxed welcome, and where you can discover surfing or improve your skills. Lessons for all ages from five upwards are led by nationally-qualified instructors. Our tuition method enables surfers of all levels (beginners to advanced) to improve their skills.

David and Thomas, two surfing champions, invite you to share their passion for surfing and offer different options for learning to surf or improving your skills, in one-to-one or group sessions, at Erretegia Beach in Bidart.



All in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere!

Erretegia beach is located near Bidart Center in a green and natural setting that extends over several hundred meters. This beach is also the starting point of the coastal path: the famous Basque Coast hike which stretches over 25km to Hendaye.

The Erretegia circus, classified as a Sensitive Natural Area, has been the subject of an innovative project combining a renaturation plan for the site and its adaptation to climate change. The work undertaken in 2019/2020 will allow the ocean to breathe with the creation of a larger and more natural interior beach, to give back space to the biodiversity, fauna and flora typical of this site.

The beach is supervised in July and August.

It is accessible on foot, about 250m from the parking lot (paying from June 15 to September 15), by bicycle via the Vélodyssée and by bus from the "Erretegia" stop.

Alaia Surf Club welcomes you at Ilbarritz Beach, at the gates of Bidart and Biarritz.



We organise surf lessons throughout the year. Come and enjoy a quality learning experience. Whether you are a beginner or experienced surfer, Mathieu your instructor, who holds an advanced state diploma in surf instruction, will allow you to benefit from his ten years of professional experience, enabling you to discover surfing and ride the waves in total safety, children and adults alike. ‘Handi Surf’ accredited, the Alaia Surf Club is recognised by the French Association Handi Surf (Association Nationale Handi Surf), which guarantees its facilities and services are suitable for persons with a disability.

At the limit of Biarritz, the beach of Ilbarritz is located at the north of Bidart, below the castle of Ilbarritz.

On a little more than 300m of sand, you will be able to fully enjoy this beach which is supervised during the summer season, from mid June to the end of October. The sportsmen will also be able to play golf on a very beautiful course which surrounds & overhangs the beach.

The beach is equipped with toilets and showers and two restaurants.

Dogs are not allowed during the surveillance period.

The access, on a slope, is adapted for people with reduced mobility.

You can get there by bicycle via the Vélodyssée or by bus from the "Ilbarritz" stop.

To park, there are two parking lots (paying from June 15th to September 15th). The first one on the avenue of Ilbarritz also allows to join the Milady beach of Biarritz and the second one is on the avenue of the Lake.

At the heart of the special neighbourhood of the Parc d’Hiver (Winter Park), discover the latest and most exclusive 5 star hotel of the Basque Coast. In Bidart, surfing had been a long-standing part of the Basque Pelota Club Kostakoak, unfortunately losing ground in the 80s with a large number of Bidart surfers at that time tending to join our cousins at the Urkirola Surf Club in Guéthary. The Bidarteko Surf Club, literally the surf club of people from Bidart, saw the light in 1990 upon the initiative of our young, dynamic president Pierre Bergé and a couple of enthusiastic good friends (Thierry Maisonave and Alain Etchelecou).



Today, having organised many competitions, having won many awards and thanks to the numerous events organised by club members and the parents of the club’s competitors, Bidarteko has manged to retain the spirit of a club where members are friends; a warm, welcoming club that is full of life, full of energy and popular with children.
