These two investigations are entrusted to the apprentice detectives. The tour includes major points of interest in the vineyards and 2 to 3 tastings.

On the edge of Monein, heading towards Oloron Ste Marie and in the heart of the Jurançon AOC region, lies the Nigri estate. It was started in 1685 and the Lacoste family has been running the property for four generations. The vines are organically farmed in a culturally innovative way which cares for the environment, mankind and the health of the vines. The cellar is organised with great attention to detail; the premises are hygienic, use high quality materials and temperature controlled fermentation tanks. The geological diversity of the land, the grape varieties, plus a lot of dedicated work, give the estate wines complex and original aromatic top notes.
Lucq de Béarn is a typical Béarnaise village between Monein and Navarrenx. The estate is located in the heart of the Jurançon AOC region, surrounded by vine clad hillsides. The ‘Bois sacré’ is a nod to the village of Lucq de Béarn where the St.Martin family has lived for centuries. Today the fifth generation has taken over, producing their first wines from the estate in 2015. Inspired by peasant ancestry, the winemaking is based around observing natural conditions in order to produce authentic and balanced wines. Guided tours of the installations and a presentation of the sweet and dry wines is on offer for visitors.
Founded between 1100 and 1124, the Commanderie was deemed a main piece of the hospital network, put in place by Gaston IV the Croise during the conquest of the Saragosse on the Maures. Pilgrims on their way to Arles, before the ascent of Somport have long been welcomed. Visit of the Commanderie: the church, home, cemetery, temporary expositions and shows.
Lacommande is a charming small village on the Compostela route. The ‘Maison des vins’ is in front of the ‘Commanderie’ a 12th century pilgrim refuge and acts as a welcome point for visitors to the wine region. It is also an important stop off on the wine tasting route; it holds more than 150 Jurançon AOC wines, all of which have been produced by independent winemakers.
The Maison des Vins has a large choice of wines available, both dry and sweet, which come from the Jurançon ‘Route des Vins’, in addition to Madiran, Irouléguy and other wines from the south west, as well as numerous local farm products.
An essential stop off for wine lovers.
On the hillsides in Monein, near to Pau and facing the Pyrénées, this eight hectare estate is very old. According to legend, a ‘gersois’ (a person from the Gers) named Montesquiou, came to the Béarn to get married and founded the estate which still bears his name. It has been passed down from father to son. Today Sébastien and Fabrice Bordenave Montesquiou are at the helm, producing five types of wine which are typical of the appellation. The estate includes a traditional Béarnaise house and a wine cellar made from pebbles. Guided tours of the set up, tastings and direct sales are on offer and campervans are welcome.
Producer of organic Jurançon and organic herbal teas, I am happy to welcome you in this precious and protected natural space, a paradise clinging to a hillside everywhere ready to tumble into the void
It is surely for this reason that the search for balance is part of my daily life: balance between wild nature and cultivated plants, between the know-how of the ancients and modern techniques, between strength and delicacy, between sweetness and freshness.
The guest rooms at Druon Castle are located in Sevignacq-Meyracq, at the entrance of the Ossau valley, 25 km from Pau.
The castle is the ideal starting point for your holiday in Ossau Valley. Gilles and Elisabeth welcome you in this old house completely renovated for a moment of great conviviality. You can stay in one of the beautiful rooms tastefully decorated, while enjoying the most modern comforts.
At the foot of the hillside on the outskirts of Monein, a village near Pau, the Castéra estate was created in 1750 and the Lihour family acquired the property in 1885. For five generations this family has worked diligently with their native varieties in order to produce distinguished and unique wines.
The father and son winemaking team are rightly proud of their 11 hectares of vines, perched on the hillside at an altitude of 300m.
With an alchemy between modernity and tradition, the vines are cultivated simply; the team uses their observational skills together with a large dose of common sense courtesy of their farming background. Vineyard diseases are tackled almost entirely with natural products (copper, sulfur and essential oils) and the earth is fertilised using manure, rocks, and multiple plants.
